Reward yourself for meeting small weight loss goals such as 5 pounds or even for every pound you lose. It can help keep you motivated. My favorite personal rewards are inexpensive bouquets of flowers, a pair of cute socks, or an afternoon off to do whatever I want such as reading a book at the beach or playing video games.

Eat more meals at home. Restaurant and fast food meals are notoriously high in fat, sodium and calories. When you cook it yourself you have complete control over the calories, sodium and fat. It’s also less expensive than eating out. You can use that money you save to buy smaller clothes!

WEIGHT LOSS TIP OF THE DAY – Listen To Music While Exercising

Tune into the tunes! Listening to music you like (skip the elevator music when trying to work up a sweat)while exercising makes the time go by faster so those 30 minutes on the elliptical trainer won’t feel like 3 hours.

Find exercise you enjoy. How long can you make yourself do exercise you hate? If the thought of going to the gym and running on a treadmill makes you break out in hives, then find try something else! What did you love to do as a kid? I loved to ride bicycle so I bought myself a bike and started riding. I love doing it and it burns lots of calories!

WEIGHT LOSS TIP OF THE DAY – Ask For Support

Don’t go it alone. Enlist the support of at least one person that you can go to when you’re finding it extra hard to resist the ice cream in the freezer or to get your butt to the gym to exercise. It can be a family member, friend, or even an online support group.

WEIGHT LOSS TIP OF THE DAY – Fight Empty Bag Syndrome

Do you have “empty bag syndrome?” (definition: can’t stop eating until the package is empty no matter how big the package and no matter how full you are). Buy your favorite treats in single serve portions even if they are more expensive than the big package. Better to spend a little more money on food than to permanently wear it on your stomach or hips, right?

WEIGHT LOSS TIP OF THE DAY – Check Serving Sizes

Check serving size before opening the package. Some of those packages that seem like they are a single serving (and are for most of us) are actually 2 or 3 servings. It’s devious trickery on the part of food manufacturers but completely legal so always “read it before you eat it.”

WEIGHT LOSS TIP OF THE DAY – Lighten Your Mocha Latte

Can’t live without your daily mocha latte? Order it with skim, soy or almond milk to reduce calories; ask for half the normal amount of the regular chocolate syrup instead of going for the sugar free stuff that doesn’t taste as good; and skip the whipped cream on top.
