Walking is a normal part of most people’s everyday lives. At least it used to be until most of us got so dependant on our motorized modes of transportation that it became normal to hop in our vehicles and drive 2 blocks to the gas station for a cup of coffee because who has the time or inclination to walk there and back? Walking is so normal to our bodies and can be a great aid in our weight loss efforts.

I never thought there would come a day when I would use the words “workout” and “favorite” in the same sentence. I used to equate “working out” with torture and something to be avoided at all costs. It’s not that I can say I now love to work out because I don’t. But, I do love what it does for me. It’s helping me lose weight, gives me more energy, helps me feel more clear headed and focused, is helping me get healthier and is making me look better because I’m building some muscle and getting toned rather than getting more lumpy every day by sitting on my butt and eating junk food.

Can’t live without your daily mocha latte? Order it with skim, soy or almond milk to reduce calories; ask for half the normal amount of the regular chocolate syrup instead of going for the sugar free stuff that doesn’t taste as good; and skip the whipped cream on top.

Special K has added to their arsenal of products with strawberry and blueberry fruit crisps. They’re shaped like a cereal bar but have a crispy outer shell and fruity filling that’s similar to a pop tart. On the plus side; each foil wrapped packet of 2 crisps is 100 calories – an okay calorie count for a snack or for a light dessert.

Know anybody who can’t eat a bite when they are stressed? Unfortunately that’s not me. Food is my emotional crutch even when my stomach is rebelling. Yesterday I got sick from something I ate (won’t gross you out with the details but it wasn’t pretty) and even though my stomach was in no shape to take in any food I wanted to eat anyway.

I used to be one of those people that would order a salad for my meal whenever I went out, thinking that it was always the healthiest choice on the menu. Then I got educated and found out a salad can be one of the highest calorie and fat items on the entire menu and that I would have consumed less calories by ordering a steak or a burger (with potatoes!).

It’s been a month since I started getting acupuncture to help with my headaches and with my food cravings. I haven’t noticed any change for the better in the past week, but that might be due to the extreme stress I’ve been under (the big “C” for a family member). I feel like everything in my life is out of whack so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that it feels like the acupuncture hasn’t done anything this week.
